forUSE 2003 Second International Conference on Usage-Centered Design
18-22 October 2003 | Portsmouth, New Hampshire

A Conference on Usage-Centered, Task-Oriented, and
Performance-Centered Design for Software and Web Applications

"Performance by Design"

Special Events help round out the conference experience. For details on pre-conference tutorials, concurrent sessions, and plenary presentations, see the full program. And, throughout the Conference, the hotel features free Wi-Fi Internet access!

  • Opening Reception
Kicking off the conference Sunday night is the official welcome from the conference organizers.

  • Demos, Dialogue, and Drinks
Come share drinks and nibbles with us as you join your colleagues after classes for informal demonstrations and hands-on interaction with new tools and products. Meet the conference faculty, find out about new resources, and share your ideas and experiences with others in the field.

  • Interaction Design Open X-Games
An adrenalin-charged series of time-boxed design challenges will push competing teams to the limits of agility and ingenuity. All new problems for 2003 will give teams a chance to put their modeling and design skills to the test for prizes and recognition. At right, collaboration and card-based modeling paid off for the team that went on to take first place in the 2002 Open X-Games.

  • Focus Lunches
On Tuesday and Wednesday, an extended lunchtime will give people who want to gather to discuss particular topics a chance to form birds-of-a-feather roundtables. Each table will feature a subject or issue or area of interest as a focus for the lunchtime gathering. Anyone is free to form a Focus Lunch through a centrally located bulletin board for posting topics.

  • A Usage-Centered Town Meeting
The Conference closes with an open forum to wrap-up the proceedings with the audience center-stage. This is a chance for everybody to participate in raising the questions, exploring the potentials, and defining the directions. Where to now? What happens next? What are the challenges and prospects? How do we proceed from here?.
